Three men and three women find themselves and each other in the three stories in this Nora Roberts novel. ![]() ![]() A simple, but well-done book by a man who has followed his heart around the globe and realizes that connecting with the divine happens on the inside. It gives you stuff to think about instead of instructions to just "do this, then that." It changed my thinking on my relationship with everything around me, allowing me to feel more connected than ever before.Īlso, if you regularly meditate, there are amazing ideas in here on which you should spend your time in deep thought. It deals more with what's happening inside you and less of what might be happening out in the universe. ![]() If you have been reading books on magick for years and you're tired of the repetitious speculation, you have to refresh your mind with this book. The past, thus, becomes a part of the present consciousness of the diasporic subject. Although the past is invoked now and then, the focus is persistently on the ‘moment.’ The past is invoked to indicate a certain contrast, which must be incorporated, and controlled in the present life in order to negotiate the network of social relations in the immediate world. The word ‘diaspora’ itself, coming, as it does, from Greek ‘dia’ (‘through’) and ‘speirein’ (‘to scatter’), etymologically means ‘dispersal,’ and involves, at least two countries, two cultures, which are embedded in the mind of the migrant, side-by-side. ![]() The perspective of the ‘moment’ privileged in the above extract may indeed be very useful in the study of diasporic literature. I believe, when our experience of the world is less that of a long life developing through time than that of a network that connects points and intersects with its own skein. We are in the epoch of simultaneity: we are in the epoch of juxtaposition, the epoch of the near and the far, of the side-by-side, of the dispersed. The present epoch will perhaps be above all the epoch of space. ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() There, the pieces of a past she never knew unfold to reveal a tender story of lasting devotion, the kind of steadfast commitment that Elizabeth admits is missing from her own marriage. ![]() Grieving and alone, she retreats to an isolated beach house where she packs away the last remnants of her parents’ lives. But it always bugged me a little bit that you never saw Scrooge doing the work of becoming a better person. He's one of the greats of humanity in terms of authorship. "And don't get me wrong, Dickens is Dickens for a reason. "The biggest inspiration for the novel in its current form is Dickens' A Christmas Carol, because Wallace is my take on Ebeneezer Scrooge," Klune tells SYFY WIRE. ![]() In the process, he starts becoming a better person. As Wallace slowly comes to terms with his own passing - and his new status as a "ghost" - he gets to know Hugo, as well as Mei (the reaper who collected him and brought him there), Nelson (Hugo's ghostly grandfather), and Apollo (Hugo's now-ghostly dog). The novel tells the story of Wallace Price, a recently-deceased lawyer who finds himself transported to Charon's Crossing, a teahouse run by Hugo Freeman, a "ferryman" who works to help people cross over into the afterlife. Most stories end when a person dies. However, in TJ Klune’s latest novel, Under the Whispering Door, death is simply another chapter in a larger journey. ![]() ![]() The action in the book is exciting and the principal characters in the book are so finely drawn that I came to care about them very much. She needed their protection and they needed hers as the “magic” of the Druid priest pursued them to the Russian steppes through the dark Carpathian mountains in the form of a giant “ghostly” wolf. It turns out that the spirit within Epona was attuned with the horses and Kazhak and his friends became her trusted companions and protectors. The Celts experience with horses had always been only with the smaller cart ponies used in the mountains and they had never seen the magnificent riding horses from the steppes. ![]() ![]() ![]() But the adventure begins when Epona feels a desperate need to leave her beautiful home in the Blue Mountains – which I took to be the Alps – and left with Kazhak, a Scythian, and his two companions. It’s very detailed about how the early Celts lived their lives every day and how they believed the spirits within everything and everyone helped shape their lives. Epona is the Celtic Goddess of the horse and this is her story. This is a fictionalized version of how the old Druid/Celtic Gods became known. ![]() A great story making the old Celtic myths and legends come alive. ![]() |
